Leadership Advice

Some time ago I was away at a leadership conference and we were focusing our attention on fundraising for non-profits and charities.  There was an incredible comment I heard regarding accountability, so I will try and set it up as best as I can.

The president of a company is meeting with his team discussing a project he wants completed.  Upon completion of the discussion and laying the groundwork for what he wants completed he turns to his team and says, “who will I look in the eyes?”

You see, the leader was holding his team accountable when he asked the question.  After reflecting for a while about this, I was struck with the power of this comment.  Often times in leadership when handing out responsibilities to your team, there isn’t always good follow up.  The leader may take for granted his team or get to busy that he forgets to check up with them.  When a leader looks to his team and says, “who will I look in the eyes?” he is stating that this is important to him and to the company.

I thought this was great leadership advice.  What great advice have you been given lately?
